I've found that the key to surviving a deployment is staying busy. Having regular activities planned on a weekly basis helps to pass the time. Last deployment I was VERY spontaneous. Road trips, impromptu dinners with friends, random mall trips, etc. This time around I don't see that happening. Nothing is spontaneous with a toddler unless it's a blow out diaper...
No, This deployment will not be as impulsive, but I am determined to stay busy. I'm part of a Moms group that meets weekly. Stroller walking is on the menu and I'm really involved in church. Then there's also that kid named Liam. He keeps me pretty busy, as well.
Oh and let us not forget the care packages and letters! They don't take much time, but boy can you get carried away! ha! I'm thinking about adding a few posts about my care packages. What do you think?
In the theme of staying busy Liam and I had a play date at the mall this A.M. Here's just a few pics of Liam playing. It wouldn't be one of my posts without pics of the boy, now would it?
So, what do you do to stay busy during a deployment?
I think you should DEFINITELY post about the care packages!!! It could help other ladies decide what to put in theirs! ;)
ReplyDeleteI was thinking that too! Or what not too put! I learned that lesson the hard way. haha!
DeleteI've never had your experience but I thinking blogging about something that is a big part of your families life is a great idea. Enjoy your SITS Day.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm hoping blogging will keep me busy and serve as a way for my husband to see what we were up to! :)
DeleteStaying busy helps keep, our minds off a lot of things. Happy SITS day. I hope you enjoy the love!
ReplyDeleteThat it does! Thank you! I am definitely enjoying all this LOVE!
Deletewhat are care packages? Curious :)
ReplyDeleteLiam is so adorable. :) Happy SITS day to you! Have fun! :)
Thank you!!! Care Packages are boxes that you mail out to your service member. They usually contain things they need or are just for fun. I like to send food, books, games, personal care items, etc. I have an entire Pinterest board of ideas if you want to see http://pinterest.com/sjmrivas/sending-him-love/. The fun part is decorating the box. I usually add pictures, quotes and drawings to the inside of the box. Having a "theme" for the box is a lot of fun too. :)
DeleteHe is just adorable! And definitely post about the care packages. There is another blogger who posts about her Care packages to her husband who is deployed and it is awesome (she also has a Pinterest board with pics of them). http://jomygosh.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteHappy SITS Day!
Thank you! I'll have to check out her blog! I love getting new ideas! Care packages definitely make deployments a little more bearable (if that's possible)!
DeleteRoutines are not only productive, they are comforting. You are so smart to plan on keeping active. Having some regular group meetings, or even a "park" day can really add that needed structure!
ReplyDeleteYes, they are! I think having a routine is also helpful for kids! My husband is in and out a lot of the time, so it's good to have something that is constant in our lives! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI think readers would enjoy posts about care packages. Your blogging and your pics are a great diary for your spouse to enjoy. Visiting from SITS.
ReplyDeleteI definitely think I will be posting about my car packages! It really will be great for him to look back and see what we did. I'm hoping it will help him not feel as though he's missed so much! Thank you for commenting! :)
DeleteStaying busy during a deployment is one of the most important things! Having a little one sure helps, I bet. Great post and I always love getting new care package ideas from other bloggers! Visiting from SITS! Have a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by! I love getting new ideas too! I have a Pinterest board full of ideas if you want to check it out!
DeleteHappy SITS day! I would love if you'd post some tips on what to put in care packages for our deployed servicemen/women. We had a friend at church who was deployed and I always planned to do a care package, but never did because I didn't know what to put in it! Terrible I know!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I will most definitely be posting my care packages (as soon as my husband leaves)! I'm sure they would have enjoyed anything you sent! I really think it's the thought that counts more than what's in the box! :)
DeleteI bet that cutie keeps you busy most of the time! So, I suggest taking a nap when he does! Sleeping is staying busy, right? Happy SITS Day!
ReplyDeleteSleeping is definitely staying busy!! Liam definitely keeps me running! Thank you!!!
DeleteStaying busy can be a saving grace in many situations.
ReplyDeleteSo true! It keeps the mind from wondering! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteStaying busy helps me when I'm feeling anxious about something...and I would love to hear about the care packages! Happy SITS day!
ReplyDeleteThank you! As soon as my husband actually heads out on deployment (it was postponed) then I will definitely be posting my care packages! :)
DeleteYou should definitely post about care packages :) Happy SITS Day!!!
