Here is the recipe I used. Oil, flour, cream of tarter, salt, water....really simple and you probably already have everything in your pantry. For the colors I used the back of the food coloring box as a guide. There's usually a chart with how to combine colors to make frosting colors. We went with lime green, teal, orange, reddish/pink and yellow.
Liam had a great time mixing and kneading as we made the dough. And he loved playing with the end result. I broke out some cookie and biscuit cutters for him to use and he got the hang of it fast. Liam did mix colors and I had to overcome the OCD side of myself. I desperately wanted to pull the colors apart, but he was having fun and I've had to learn to let go of little things like that. I am way more laid back than I use to be. lol
To store the dough I put each color (as best I could) in a plastic sandwich bag and put them all in the fridge.
Saturday we were super busy and I didn't take a single picture. We spent 2 hours at the YMCA where Liam played and I worked out. Then we went shopping followed by a dash home for a nap. Then Liam and I both made new friends at a get together with other Navy wives from my husband's department. It's nice to know people from the ship that have similar schedules and know what you're going through. That was the whole point of the get together. I would say it was a success. :)
Sunday we went to church and spent the afternoon napping (well, Liam did). After naptime we had a meeting for church and I'm happy to say that we have a lot of exciting things happening!
The weekend flew by and I'm glad it did! I hate to wish time away, but when my husband is out that's what I spend my days doing!
I used to make play-doh for my kids when they were little but it didn't look as good as yours!!

DeleteAndrea hit hear as well. We had plans for Smores, but our backyard was flooded!
ReplyDeleteOh no! We had flooding in our area, but none near where I live. I hope it didn't cause any damage! Maybe this weekend you can do Smores! Mmm. Now I want some Smores! lol!
DeleteWhat a cutie! Glad you had a fun last weekend! Homemade playdough can be a lot of fun, though we've had yet to make it at our house because we gotten way too much actual playdough from family members! LOL :)
ReplyDeleteHappy SITS Day! I hope it's an amazing one for you!
Thank you! I always played with playdough as a kid, but for some reason had yet to get any for Liam. lol
DeleteToday has been overwhelmingly amazing! Thanks! :)
He's having so much fun with the play dough. I love the homemade kind way better than the store bought.
ReplyDeleteHe had a great time! It had been a long time since I'd made any...I'd forgotten how much fun it was! :)

ReplyDeleteThank you!!! It's really easy to make too!
Deletesometimes I wish I had a child now so I could do things like make playdough...
ReplyDeleteJust make it for yourself! No one will ever know. hehe!
DeleteI have the same problem when my kids combine the colors. I am learning to let it go too. It's hard but so worth it to see them playing and having fun. Can't wait to read more!
ReplyDeleteI have really learned to let go of so much after having Liam, but it is totally worth it! Thank you for stopping by! :)
DeleteLiam is adorable! Your post brought back such great memories of when my kids were little and we made the home-made play dough! I don't think our food coloring was quite as good back then, though...we were stuck with just primary colors and it always came off on our hands. But still so fun and great memories! My thanks to your husband for what he does to serve our country and to you and Liam for holding down the homefront when he is away.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I really appreciate your support! I remember making playdough as a kid too! :)
